What Is Vertebral Subluxation?

Vertebral Subluxation is a spinal dysfunction characterized by the following five components: kinesiopathology, neuropathology, myopathology, histopathology, and pathophysiology.

At Power Within, we believe that correcting subluxations are at the heart of chiropractic treatments. Let us break each one apart and see how they rob us of the light within us. After all the subluxation in its literal meaning is “condition of less light.”

Kinesiopathology – Abnormal spinal movements, less than normal range of motion.

Neuropathophysiology – Changes in the spinal biomechanics result in the sensory overload of the central nervous system. The outgoing message from the brain therefore is also changed. In turn, the message that the brain sends to your muscles or internal organs is altered. The nerve at his stage can become either irritated or compressed as a result of the spinal misalignment.

INFLAMED NERVES CAN BE WITHOUT SYMPTOMS FOR YEARS. It only takes the weight of a dime to impinge a nerve and decrease its transmission by 40%.

Myopathophysiology – Muscle under altered function will spasm or muscle will have abnormal muscle fiber recruitment. When the nerve is subjected to the pressure the functional deficit is first seen in the muscle/motor function.

Additionally, there are three other compromised functions before symptoms of pain are experienced by the person: balance, touch, sense of temperature.

Histopathology – Presence of inflammation, edema, degenerative changes in the joints, ligaments and discs.

Pathophysiology – This is the stage in which the diseases of the organs and systems of the body start to become apparent. Hans Selye’s calls this stage the exhaustion phase. The limitation of adaptation there is only so much the body can take and for so long.

A compromised nervous system decreases your ability to adapt. Adaptation is a stage of resistance when the nervous system is functioning at 100%. Your adaptability is influenced by factors like age, genetics, nutrition, and type of stress.

Routine chiropractic therapy helps both adults and children stay on top of their nervous system health. Schedule your free chiropractic consultation.
